The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of depression and its risk factors among elderly with arthritis in Korea. A total of 4,200 subjects from the 2008 Korean National Older Adults Life Survey were selected. The prevalence of depression was 34.1%. Logistic regression analysis shows that depression was more prevalent as elderly who were uneducated compared to those who went college; who were less satisfied with personal relationship than those who were satisfied with that relationship; who did not often participate in group activity than those who participate at least 1-2 times per week; who had ADL limitation compared to those without limitation; who had more than three comorbidities than those without them; who did not perform low-intensity physical activities than those who performed that activities; who were underweight than those in normal BMI; who had a good sleep for 5 to 6 days or less than those with good sleep for 7 days; who experienced fall at least one time in 1 year than those who did not experience that accident. The finding of prevalence of its risk factors is expected to promote the screening or prevention strategy for community dwelling elderly with Arthritis in Korea.
